Deck the Halls with Gasoline...Fa La La La La!

Last year's Christmas post makes me ashamed. Yes, I am still baking 10 batches of cookies for an ever-growing list of people which, I am sad to say, does not include our waitress at Golden Corral this year, but does now include our Fed Ex Delivery Guy, and would include the mailman if he were not prohibited by law from taking my cookies. That sounded dirty.

Yes, I am mostly done shopping, and the tree is up...but I have no Christmas spirit whatsoever. What I have is a migraine, and a terrible dread of the days to come. Days in which I will bitch and moan and snap at my family, even though I love them and can't wait to see them. Blarg.

The week before Christmas with 6 year olds is trying, and I feel very tried. Tried and found weak and lacking. My feet hurt. My eyes hurt. WAAAAAAAHHHHH!

In good news, I am finally reviewing a book for LibraryThing's Early Reviewers Program that is AWE-SOME. Awesome. It is called Olive Kitteridge, by Elisabeth Strout, and I am loving it. Which is really nice, because so far the count had been:
Nay: 4.5 Yay: .5

My Dance Card is Full

It's a reading extravaganza!!

First off, like many others, I am absolutely beside myself about the upcoming release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Somewhat foolishly, I ordered it to be delivered on Saturday, the release date...but this means that I won't have it until Saturday afternoon...when I could be waiting at midnight tomorrow. Damn me! The other teachers at work will have already finished by Monday and I can only hope that the weekend affords me enough time to rip through it. I agreed to go to a party on Saturday night, and now I'm all, what was I thinking? How can I party when there is Harry to read? I will most assuredly be closed for business on Sunday as I ingest the book as quickly as my eyes and mind will let me.

Also, I just found out that I've scored two more books in the Library Thing Early Reviewer's program. Last time, I got Lisa See's Peony in Love, which I liked but was not having a heart attack about. This time, I'm reading Gifted by Nikita Lalwani and a sampler of (Not that You Asked) by Steven Almond. Free books rule! The other great thing about the program is that I often like to complain that "no one asked me." As in, "The ending of that movie sucked, but I guess no one asked me." Or, "That was a stupid way to begin this. Why does no one ask me?" So, now I can't complain. Somebody asked me. Not that anything can be changed based on my opinion, but I do like being asked.

And so, I have 3 books arriving by mail that I must read directly upon their arrival. Poor Wicked will be shoved aside again. I don't know if I'll ever finish that book. I like it fine, but I keep having to make way for things that I just can't wait for. Such as Another Bullshit Night in Suck City by Nick Flynn, which I bought myself for my birthday and just finished.

Obsession

I've been tagged by Pen to reveal 5 things I'm currently obsessed with.

1. LibraryThing This awesome site allows you to create your own personal library by cataloging the books that you own. You can add up to 200 books for free. That's where I got my cool new sidebar widget that displays random books from my collection. It lets me see other people who have a lot of the same books as I do, and by browsing their collections, I can see other things I might enjoy. Very useful, as the library booksale begins April 21st. Also, it appeals to the collector in me to see all my book covers in a row like that.

2. Badger Badger Badger This little bit of hilariousness was found in Velocibadgergirl's sidebar the other day while I was bored. I also visited Footy Footy Footy and from there found Mango and Giraffe. Now I wander around the house (grocery store, yard, restaurants) singing, "Snaaaake...it's a snaaaake...ooohhhh it's a snake!"

3. Amy's Diary This one I found in Bite the Rabbit's sidebar and it has kept me giggling and showing it to anyone who would look for days. (Can you tell I've had a lot of time on my hands?) And p.s., why do I never think of things like this?

4. You guys already know about the Tenacious D song Classico with which I am currently obsessed. I try not to sing that one in the grocery store. But sometimes it slips out.

5. My garden. We're due for a hard freeze on Saturday night and I am losing my mind about it. Why, God? Why? All my seedlings are in the ground now and I am looking at creating a warming tent out of christmas lights, blankets, stakes and plastic sheeting. I will not lose the last two months of work to one cold night. I just won't. And some of my beautiful seedlings are budding! NOOOOO!

I don't feel like tagging, as most of the bloggers I know have already been tagged with this one. So, I will just say, if you want to do this meme, consider yourself tagged.
